Modern States is Committed to Supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Through the Fast Start by Modern States program, we are empowering high school students to direct their own futures through an affordable higher education for all!
What is the Fast Start Program?
Many promising high school students will now have the opportunity to take their first steps toward a Talladega College degree with the Fast Start program. Through Talladega’s partnership with ModernStates.org, a website featuring more than 30 free, high-quality courses, you can gain assured admission into Talladega College by earning free college credit. This partnership will create new opportunities for Alabama students to take giant leaps in their education with a new pathway to Talladega College.
How to Become a Participant?
Modern States, a philanthropy, will be covering the entire cost of the Fast Start program.
The free online courses are located on ModernStates.org and there are corresponding CLEP exams offered by The College Board that you’ll have to take.
Complete 4 courses + pass the CLEP exams (paid for by Modern States) equaling the credit of a full semester at Talladega, WHICH CAN SAVE A STUDENT OVER $8,000.
Complete 8 courses + pass the CLEP exams (paid for by Modern States) and earn credit for your Freshman Year for Free™ at Talladega, WHICH CAN SAVE A STUDENT OVER $16,000!
Through the Fast Start program, students will be able to make their aspirations a reality by earning access to affordable, high-quality education.

- Create an account at ModernStates.org
- Enroll in any of the 30+ courses
- Complete the course(s)
- Request a voucher from Modern States to pay for your CLEP exam fee
- Schedule your exam at a CLEP Test Center and use your voucher code as payment
- Request Test Center Reimbursement from Modern States after you take the exam
- Send your passing CLEP exam scores to Talladega College before applying for admission
- Apply to Talladega College by November 1st of your senior year
